Royal Oak

Royal Oak roundabout is the centre of this area. All roads leading to a hub that each spiral off to other areas of Royal Oak. The Stardome, Cornwall Park, easy links to Epsom, Onehunga shops and One Tree Hill.

Boyd Zoo used to be located at Royal Oak and was the earliest Zoological Garden in New Zealand. Unfortunately the lion escaped and ran down Queenstown Road. Happily it was recaptured by the zoo-keeper's son but led to the closure of the gardens. Today, you are quite safe to shop, work and have coffee here without the addition of a lion!
